Alaska

Alaska is wilderness! Alaska is a vast, beautifully wild place! Travelrolano_logoling to Alaska is like to other place on earth.

Our mothership cruise offers a comfortable outdoor expedition with an emphasis on wildlife viewing, exploring and the rich cultural history of Alaska. Explore wilderness, pristine coves, and sheltered inlets as we journey through the great lands of Alaska.

During this expedition we have scheduled stops to witness some of Alaska’s interesting areas. Southeast Alaska commonly referred to as “the Panhandle” stretches 500 miles from Dixon Entrance to the Gulf of Alaska. The mild coastal climate of Southeast Alaska provides lush coniferous forests of Sitka Spruce, and Western Hemlock growing below snow peeked mountains and ice-blue glaciers.

Orcas, minke, humpback whales, seals, sea lions, dall’s porpoise, black bears, grizzly bears and goats are some of the wildlife that we might see on our Alaskan adventure. Alaska is home to a healthy bird population with over 400 species. Eagles thrive in the region and they can be sighted daily in most of the southeast.

The channels and bays of Southeastern Alaska are summer home to the Humpback whale, arriving from their long journey from Hawaii. You will be part of a small intimate group of only 8 participants who wish to explore Alaska. Explore the history and culture of Alaska's native people - Alaska's Native peoples can be divided into five principal groupings: Aleuts, Northern Eskimos (Inupiat), Southern Eskimos (Inuit), Interior Indians (Athabascans) and Southeast Coastal Indians (Tsimshain, Tlingit and Haida). Authentic Native arts and crafts, including ivory carvings, totems, beadwork and baskets, are widely sought as gifts and souvenirs. Alaska by becoming part of it, and not seeing it from the rail of a large cruise ship.

We take time to go ashore and to get a better appreciation of the native people who have inhibited this land for thousands of years, learn about Alaska's ecosystems through the naturalist guides that accompany you on your Alaska vacation.

An exact itinerary would be a difficult to put into writing, as we spend our time making some scheduled stops; visits to villages, we move to different locations daily with time to explore, and relax. Time will be spent ashore, walking, hiking in the forests, beach combing, exploring towns and exploring this amazing land. Rich river estuaries provide opportunities to see birds, wildflowers, and on occasion a grizzly bear feeding on foliage.
